J.C. Ryle, through his easy-to-read prose, gives a timely reminder to Worship Committees and the general reader of the biblical principles of worship. 1. Its general importance. 2. Its leading principles. I was pleased he confirmed my long-held belief, never articulated so well before, that simplicity is the grand characteristic of New Testament worship. Among other things he quotes Articles 20 and 34. 3. Its essentials. Finally he suggests some things which ought to be avoided in public worship, not least the giving of "disproportionate honour to any one ordinance of Christ to the neglect of another".
